Over the last ten years Softrail has been involved in developing six different portable AEI tag readers. We currently offer three different versions on two different mobile computers running Windows Mobile 6.5.
The AI4100-D and AI4100-FV portable readers use the Janam XM2 Mobile Computer and have an RF read range of 3 to 4 feet. The AI4100-D is limited to reading the data in the AEI tag and is primarily used by railcar repair shops to check that a tag can be read and it is encoded with correct information. It will not store or upload AEI tag data to other computer systems.
The AI4100-FV is able to read the AEI tags and also upload the AEI tag and barcoded data to other computer systems. It can be used to capture track inventory and record serial numbers on barcoded items.
The AI4500-FV portable reader uses the Trimble Juno T41 Mobile Computer and has an RF reader range of 8 to 10 feet. It is able to read the AEI tags and also upload the AEI tag and barcoded data to other computer systems. It can be used to capture track inventory and record serial numbers on barcoded items.
